Living the green life
In addition to replacing fixtures and plumbing products, individuals have other options for reducing water consumption:
Turn off the faucet while brushing your teeth, and rinse out the sink when you are finished.
Capture shower water while waiting for water to change temperature: this excess water can be used for watering plants.
Do not wait for the water to get hot before filling the tub for a bath: plug the drain and adjust the water temperature as the tub begins to fill.
Do not use the toilet as a garbage can: only flush the toilet when disposing of sanitary waste.
Turn the water off while shaving: fill the bottom of the sink with a few centimetres of water to rinse your razor.
Approximately 638 litres of water are used per person per day. However, homes with all water-efficient fixtures and faucets tend to be about 510 litres per person per day, thereby proving that water-efficient fixtures and faucets play a key role in helping homes conserve water.
